Introduction
In today’s era of low-code advancements, platforms like Microsoft’s Power Platform are empowering users from diverse backgrounds to become creators, crafting apps and solutions that were once only within the realm of experienced developers. This pivotal change in app development is revolutionizing how organizations operate, making complex processes more accessible and efficient. Among these powerful tools is Power Automate.

What is Power Automate?
Power Automate is designed to help organizations streamline their processes and boost efficiency through automation. It allows users to create automated workflows between various applications and services to synchronize files, get notifications, collect data, and more. Essentially, Power Automate eliminates repetitive tasks that consume valuable time and resources, ensuring consistency, reducing errors, and allowing teams to focus on more strategic activities.
Key Features of Power Automate
- Workflow Automation: Automate complex workflows across multiple applications and services.
- Integration: Connect with a wide range of services and applications.
- Triggers and Actions: Create automated responses to specific events or conditions.
- Approval Processes: Set up automated approval workflows to streamline decision-making.
Handling Failures in Power Automate Flows
As developers know, any custom-developed workflow can and will likely fail at some point. Whether due to insufficient testing, logical errors, loss of connection, or any number of other possibilities, failures are inevitable. The key is to be proactive rather than reactive when these failures occur.
Typically, once a flow is built and moved into production, it becomes “out-of-sight, out-of-mind.” We rely on it to run behind the scenes, only addressing issues when they are reported. However, there’s a better way to manage and build robust Power Automate flows.
Proactive Error Handling with Power Automate
By leveraging the Scope action, you can configure traditional Try, Catch development methodologies within your flows. These blocks allow you to run specific logic upon successful execution and other logic, such as email notifications or logging errors, when a failure occurs.
Download Pre-Built Solutions to Save Time
To make this configuration more easily repeatable for all users and organizations, I have created both a managed and unmanaged solution that can be imported into your Dataverse environment of choice.
What’s included In the Download (Zip file)?
- Instructions to import your solution and use the templated Power Automate Flows (.docx)
- 1 Managed Solution file (.zip) – Recommended install for most customers
- 1 Unmanaged Solution file (.zip)
These solutions include three flows (two templated instant flows and one child flow), which can significantly save you and your organization time.
I hope these pre-built flows prove be valuable to you and your organization. Please leave a comment and let me know if these assets help you!
Note: To import these solutions, make sure you have Dataverse installed in your environment. Stay tuned for an upcoming update where I’ll provide an alternative download for customers who aren’t using Dataverse.
